Rainbows and Rain :: Personal Narrative Sports Frisbee Essays

Rainbows and Rain I sit on my bed taking off my cleats as I hang the Frisbee over the huge torn chunk of wall, caused my removal of the corkboard and the wonders of â€Å"wall tape.† I finish my dinner and realize that the great idea of placing my plate into my â€Å"Frisbee tray" is not such a great idea when the plate is permanently stuck inside the Frisbee for a whole three minutes as struggle to pull it out. I scale the roof of my grandmother’s cabin in order to save my Frisbee from beating rains, intolerable sun, and absolute loneliness. I scale the steep weeds and ivy groves in order to save my Frisbee from the treacherous rivers which roars below. I pull and huck the Frisbee. I toss and pass the Frisbee. My hands turn red and chapped in the cold and fast and sweet in the heat. The Frisbee sails in the sky meeting the sunset horizons before a swift catch and speedy throw sends it again, through a similar cycle, of something I call magic. To sprint, and just believe that if I reach out far enough I will perfectly meet the disc and it will meet my hand as one total motion has been completed. The power of running as the Frisbee flies over your head, as you lose all sense of gravity to make the final grasp at spinning disc, is the beginning of the high. Just before you meet the ground, whether it a be serious layout or you end up tasting grass, dirt, fertilizer, it’s a worth it, just as long as you have caught the Frisbee. And the high sinks into the spirituality of it all; victory is possible in that mighty catch. Truly we are Heroins. This, my friends, is the sport the absolute addiction, of one single disc, cleats (or no shoes if you prefer), some grudging comfy clothing, H2O, and a heroin teammate. But it's not just throwing and catching, which I cannot resist. And I mean I really cannot accept the idea of people throwing out in the quad without me. If players of old, and players of new are throwing the Frisbee all I can do is join. Even in HI, at Kona beach, people were throwing---no one I knew---I knew that I just had to play and they were totally cool about it all.

Antimicrobial Assay Worksheet

University of Phoenix Material Antimicrobial Assay Worksheet Review the image and refer to Ch. 26 of Brock Biology of Microorganisms to answer the following questions. [pic] Adapted from The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, by Islands in the Sea, 2002. Answer the following in 100 to 200 words each: 1. What does this picture represent? To what is the area around the disks proportional? This picture represents an antimicrobial agent susceptibility assay by using the disc diffusion technique. The test measures the antimicrobial activity, by determining the smallest amount of agent necessary to inhibit the growth of a specific test organism, this value is the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). The MIC expresses the lowest concentration of agent that completely inhibits the growth of the test organism (Madigan, Martinko, Stahl,  & Clark, 2012).The areas around the disks are the zone of inhibition, which are â€Å"proportional to the amount of antimicrobial agent add ed to the disc, the solubility of the agent, the diffusion coefficient, and the overall effectiveness of the agent† (Madigan, Martinko, Stahl,  & Clark, 2012, p. 763). 2. Which letter disk has the least potent antibiotic? Why? Which has the most? How do you know? Letter F disc has the least potent antibiotic because the zone of inhibition is not present with indicates that the antimicrobial agent is not an affective inhibitor of the test organism.Letter D disc has the greatest potent antibiotic because the agent is quite an affective inhibitor of the test organism. This agent creates a proportionally large zone of inhibition, which is greater than other test agents are. 3. Refer to Figure 26. 10 of Brock Biology of Microorganisms. What has happened in the minimum inhibitory concentration tube? Approximately, what is the bacterial concentration in that tube? In the minimum inhibitory concentration tube, the agent inhibits the growth of the test organism. This level of inhibiti on varies with certain factors to include the incubation conditions, culture medium, test organism, incubation time, and composition of the culture (Madigan, Martinko, Stahl,  & Clark, 2012). The bacterial concentration is approximately the same in the tube that contains the minimum inhibitory concentration level of antimicrobial agent because the agent inhibits the growth of the test organism. Hollywood’s influence on global culture Essay

1.In what ways do Hollywood movies affect national culture outside of the United States? First, Hollywood is a famous and great brand all round the world and it is true that it has a lot of good movies which left praise word. Thus, it has a lot of fans. Second, Hollywood is good at creation and do well and firstly using new technology. It can attack a lot of audience. What aspects of U.S. Culture do Hollywood films promote around the world? I think two aspects are obvious. One is the language. More and more people around the world learn the English from watching Hollywood movies, not only the word, but the intonation. And the other is American Sprite. We can see many characteristics from the movies, like freedom and strong. Can you observe positive effects of Hollywood movies on the world cultures? At first, American culture is an very important part of the world cultures and Hollywood movies is a stand of American culture. Then, Hollywood movies also involve many other countryâ€⠄¢s cultures. Though some of cultures in the movies are distorted, they still introduce some cultures to other countries. Last, sometimes Hollywood movies describe the future of the world and it can bring the development of technology. 2.In what ways have movies influenced managerial task, company activities, and other ways of doing business around the world? It is easy to be a fashion which appears on the movies. For example, the style of taking tasks can influence the officers. Many things will be pop and the company which is similar with it can develop the industry about the pop things. Even the new job the actors doing can bring the fashion and many people will do it. Can watching foreign films be an effective way of learning how to do business abroad? Justify your answer. I don’t think it will be an effective way. Movies must be exaggerated and some stories can not take place in the reality or it can bring the negative influence. And foreign firms focus more on the situations in that country. It will bring a cross-culture risk. The way used in the movies don’t work in this country. 3.What factors determine the high demand for Hollywood films? Some countries have few movies recourse and they produ ce limited located films in a yeas which can not satisfy the demand for the audience. And the quality of Hollywood films are better than it of the movies in some countries. What’s more, some people have already used to watching Hollywood films. Why are they so popular in Europe, Japan, Latin America and elsewhere? The quality is quite important. And the story and creation do  develop the situation Hollywood films are popular all around the world. Why are foreign films so little demanded in the United States? American film firms produce the enough firm to satisfy the customers’ demand. And the protectionism of the U.S. also influence the demand of foreign films in the U.S. What can foreign filmmakers do to increase demand for their movies in the United State? Improving the quality of the film can help. And the story about that country will help be popular, but the story can not be too located but accepted by some people. 4.Do movies constitute a separate category, or should they be treated like any other good? I don’t agree that the movies should be treated like other good. Like minister said that movie is intrinsic to the nations that create them. Protectionism is necessary but we can have less limited rules and do more communication about culture. Given the nature of movies, should a country shield and support its own film industry via protectionism? Are there better ways to maintain and enhance a home-frown film industry? No, producing high-quality movies is a better way. I think the people in one society are more willing to accept the movies in that area because they can accept them more easily. If there are two movies with the same quality from the Hollywood and that country, i believe more people will choose the movie produced in that country. Creation can catch the focus of youth’s attention.

Significance in Literature essays

Significance in Literature essays An Example in Literature of How An Experience Can Have Significance on a Persons Life In the short story Walk Well, My Brother the author, Farley Mowat, develops the idea that a significant experience can lead to a change in how one individual views another individual. The story shows us how a person can learn from another person that is very different from them and be moved by their selflessness into becoming a better person. It also shows us how important it is for people not to judge others for superficial reasons. An individual can learn a lot from people that are very different from them. I feel that this story was written to illustrate that point. The story tells us about a man named Charlie Lavery who was twenty six years old and believed that he was capable of taking care of himself no matter what the situation. The story gives us evidence of this when the author says, he was very much of the new elite that believed that any challenge...could be dealt with by good machines in the hands of skilled men. Charles also had no knowledge of the arctic or of the people that lived there because he felt that he did not need this knowledge as long as he had his machines. It was this ignorance that led him to feel so disgusted with the natives that lived there because he did not understand their way of life. When the machines that he so greatly relied on were no longer of use, he had no knowledge to fall back on. He was completely dependent on a native girl, Konola, whom he despised when he fi rst met. His inability to take care of himself forced him to co-operate and to try and understand this person who was so foreign to him. If it werent for the situation that he was in, he would never have made that effort and crossed the barriers that he had made between himself and the natives. In this story, Konola never once acts in a selfish manner towards Charles. She was very ill with tuberculosis and sh ...

Define and Explain Revolution in Astronomy

Define and Explain Revolution in Astronomy Revolution is an important concept to understand when youre studying the stars. It refers to the movement of a planet around the Sun. All of the planets in our solar system revolve around the sun. The path of the earth around the sun which is one complete cycle of an orbit is approximately 365.2425 days in length. Planetary revolution can sometimes be confused with planetary rotation but they are two separate things. Difference Between Revolution and Rotation While revolution and rotation are similar concepts each is used to describe two different things. Planets, like Earth, revolve or travel around the sun. But the Earth is also spinning on what is called an axis, this rotation is what gives us our night and day cycle. If the Earth didnt spin then only one side of it would face the sun during its revolution. This would make the other side of the Earth very cold as we need the sun for light and heat. This ability to spin on an axis is called rotation. What Is a Terrestrial Year? A full revolution of the Earth around the Sun is known as a terrestrial, or earth year. It takes roughly 365 days for the Earth to complete this revolution. This is what our calendar year is based on.  The Gregorian Calendar is based on the revolution of the earth around the sun to be 365.2425 days in length. The inclusion of a leap year, one where we have an extra day happens every four years to account for the .2425. As Earths orbit changes the length of our years changes as well. These types of changes usually happen over millions of years. Does the Moon Revolve Around Earth? The moon orbits, or revolves, around the Earth. Each planet affects the other one. The moon has some interesting effects on the Earth. Its gravitational pull is responsible for the rise and fall of the tides. Some people believe that the full moon, a stage in the moons revolution, causes humans to act strangely. However, there is no scientific proof to back up the claim that strange things happen during the full moon. Does the Moon Rotate? The moon does not rotate because it is gravitationally locked with the Earth. The moon has synched up with the Earth in such a way that the same side of the moon is always facing the earth. This is why the Moon always looks the same. Its known that at one point the moon did rotate on its own axis. As our gravitational pull on the  moon got stronger the moon stopped rotating. What Is a Galactic Year? The time it takes for the solar system to orbit the center of the Milky Way Galaxy is referred to as a galactic year. Its also known as a cosmic year. There are 225 to 250 Million terrestrial (earth) years in one galactic year. Thats a long trip!

I'll attach it Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 4

I'll attach it - Essay Example From the reads it is clear that anti-Semitism has been politicized and this has caused a lot of pain to the Palestinians. During the holocaust an estimate of six million Jews were killed. Jews have been regarded as aliens and for this reason received discrimination on the basis of religion and on biological characteristics. The United states have come to the protection of the Jews on the view that they are shielding their existence in this world. It should be noted that there is still genuine Palestinians who times might conflict with Israeli interests and this should not be a ground of inducing suffering to them. Palestine-Israel Conflict has cost a lot of American’s finances and this has caused a hitch on the part of the taxpayers. It is estimated that in the year 2002 this instability in the middle east especially the Palestine-Israel, did cost America $3 trillion. This is without factoring in other expenses that not quantified in this expenditure. This amount of money could go a long way to boost the American’s economy such as creation of employment, curbing inflation or development. It also through the Americans’ support for the Jews, that hostility has risen against innocent Americans which results to scenarios such as terrorism. This fact questions the diplomacy of America with mostly Muslim

Proposal- how alcohol and drugs affect drosophila mutation Essay

Proposal- how alcohol and drugs affect drosophila mutation - Essay Example In this research, the researcher will show how tolerance effects last in Drosophila, an incidence that can be related to human beings. Sometimes alcohol and drug use may extend to the withdrawal stage and the researcher will show whether stress affects the return to a tolerant state after this no drug usage stage of withdrawal. Lastly, the research will show the different behaviors of Drosophila mutants that lack donamine receptors to determine whether they behave differently or not. Alcohol use can lead to addiction that is simply the compulsory use of drugs for survival. Human beings and animals are all subject to drug abuse with recent studies using animals in their studies to explain both behaviors witnessed by humans. The two are proved of having the same body genes that behave the same under alcohol or drug use. In studying the effect of alcohol and drug use in Drosophila mutation, the research will examine the fruit fly Drosophila. Drosophila gets in touch to alcohol and ethanol almost daily from the fermented fruits they eat, but they are resistant to them, unlike ethanol and alcohol in labs that they show some level of sensitivity when exposed to them. When exposed to alcohol, the fruit flies become hyperactive and show somebody imbalance. Just like humans, fruit flies have genes like alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and acetylaidelyde dehydrogenase (ACDH). Then when exposed to alcohol fumes, ADH changes alcohol into an aldehyde that is then changed to citri c acid by ACDH. The citric acid generates the energy responsible for the hyperactivity realized when humans and the fruit flies are exposed to alcohol. The first alcohol exposure results in the hyperactivity but with continuous exposures, the behavior changes and the fruit flies become tolerant to the ethanol and alcohol effects (Speicher, Motulsky and Antonarakis, 2010). At the tolerance stage, flies have to take more alcohol than earlier for them to start feeling the effects.
